Lawrence,

Just follow this document below to do the uninstall. You don't have to worry about other drives/folders.

Hello

I know this previous call is closed, but I have a very quick question, which is probably real easy for you.

We spoke before of starting over before a 2nd install (after all is messed up).

You mentioned these steps:

1) Delete Windchill_9.0 folder
2) uninstall ldap/aphelion
3) drop user schema (drop user wc90 cascade;)

The wc9 solutioninstaller is throwing me fits.
I now have 2 databases, windc & wind90
2 shared drives for ldap (usually R: & now I have P:)

I will uninstall ldap, but last time it did not delete all folders in the R: drive & didnt remove the R:
drive & didnt like that it existed on 2nd install.

So IM going crazy.

2 main questions to get back to square 1 (I imagine while still leaving oracle installed)

what best route to delete wind & wind90 sid/databases (user already dropped).
I can uninstall the ldap, but it wont delete all folders & wont remove R:

So I guess I have my main 3 still, but slightly adjusted:

1) delete wc9 folders
2) uninstall ldap, but how to I get rid of R: after deleting folders uninstall wont
3) delete database wind & wind90 (instead of just drop user)

I appreciate any help you can rpovide. I can put in a call if you want, but I wanted to make
sure you were the one to help me, because you seem to know the windchill side very well &
I dont want to go through the whole previous explanation with some one else.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks
Lawrence Jett

Thanks Larry, that's very kind of you.But those surveys are randomly generated by the system, we have no control over it. Appreciate the thought though:)

Thanks,
Sandy

Hello

For one of my other ptc help desk calls, I received an email "PTC Customer Survey"
for that call. I left all good marks.

Can you do one for our call: C6251696

I would like to give you all good marks also.

Good work should be rewarded & hopefully your supervisors look at the surveys.

Thanks
Larry Jett

Lawrence,

I do not think this should be an issue. In all probability, if you rehost/install 7.0 on the server with Oracle 10g, it should go through without any issues. But this has not really been tested,so I cannot guarentee it will work 100%. You can do a quick test .Take an export of the 7.0 Production database and dump into 10g and run 7.0 connecting to 10g server.

Or go ahead with the 7.0 install, if you run into issues, wipe out the install, uninstall Oracle 10g, install 9i and restart the install process. But my guess is, it should work with 10g.

However, please note that we will not support this procedure for Production Upgrade. The sequence for Production should be(assuming you are moving to a different server) :install/rehost 7.0 with Oracle 9i, upgrade to 10g, then install 9.0.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks,
Sandy

Hello again,

I have just now found time available to start looking at your email &/or docs/guides.

I don't know if you closed this call or not. Nor if it matters, but I have a question of you.

I spoke with my supervisor & we might be forced into a particular Oracle situation.
From what I recall, you mentioned rehosting the wc7 prod data on new server.

Which requires a Oracle 9i (I think) install to rehost. Then I think upgrade the Oracle to
10g & install wc9. Either that order or opposite (install wc9, then upgrade oracle to 10g).

But our situation might be that the Unix/Solaris10 server might come to us with Oracle 10g
already installed.

What kid of problem does that cause. What kind of alternate route might we be allowed to
work with. Or are we totally bound to installing Oracle 9i 1st (or whatever Oracle version the
Windchill 7 M090 requires).

I hope you can help me with this. Because I appreciate your speed & expertise. but if you
closed the other call & cant respond to my request, can I then place another help desk call
& request you. I imagine there are plenty of good wc people there (Mr. Bloom is one also, I think),
but having you help me, help repeating what we already went through.

Which ever way is best for you, is best for me.

Thanks
Lawrence Jett

Lawrence,

C6251696 : Customer is looking for general Upgrade Instruction to upgrade from  Windchill 7 M090 to both Windchill 8.0 M050 & Windchill 9.0 M030.

I have summarised all the details we discussed on the phone. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Before you begin the Upgrade, please take a few seconds to review this information:

1) First, follow the procedure in the Rehost Guide(link below) to rehost the Production 7.0 server on to a Test Server where you will perform the upgrade.

http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/38433/en/WindchillRehostGuide.pdf

2) Make sure you can bring up the 7.0 server up and log into the UI.

3) Now, take a backup of you LDAP .

4) Uninstall Aphelion browser from Control Panel.

5) Upgrade Oracle to 10g using the Database Assistant Manager . Please open a call with the Windchill Runtime Group if you want assistance with this.

6) Install Windchill 9.0 on this same machine. (use attached Windchill_upgrade_checklist.pdf as reference for this)

Also, refer to the Windchill Installation and Configuration guide:
http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/58562/en/WCAdvancedInstallConfigGuide.pdf

   a) Install Apache/tomcat/Aphelion(browser) on a different directory structure.
   b) Make sure to install the Infoengine with a distinct Base Distinguished Name.
   c) When creating the Oracle User, make sure to create a new 9.0 User Schema, but use the same Service Name (SID) defined in the 7.0 db.properties(wt.pom.serviceName)

7) Once the 9.0 install is done, you should be able to bring up the 9.0 server successfully and log into the UI.

Now, you should follow the instructions in the Upgrade Guide to begin the Upgrade Process.

http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/69614/en/WCUpgradeGuide.pdf (9.0 M030)
